Marie Coquine

I love the dramatic aesthetics of this Marie Coquine Baccarat light by Philippe Starck. I saw it for real while in Morocco, and believe me, it really is fantastic.

Playing with typography

I am loving this Scrabble Typography limited edition  and its clean aesthetics. The woods used add a warm touch to the overall design.

Chanel's Bombay fantasies

What I like so much about Chanel runway shows are the exceptional fantasy worlds that come from Karl Lagerfeld's imagination. Just a look at the decor and accessories from the recent pre-fall Paris-Bombay 2011-2012 show (from a few months ago) during which a fantasy decadent Indian Palace banquet was created with high tea treats and crystal chandeliers among other things, is enough to illustrate my point. Mid-Century Mad Men of design

This beautiful picture is not a still from next season's Mad Men episodes. Indeed, those were the original Mad Men- but those of modern design and not those of advertising like Don Draper. Being a huge fan of their design products, some of which I am lucky enough to be surrounded with, I love seeing all these geniuses together sitting on the chairs that they have created. From left to right, you can see: George Nelson, Edward Wormley, Eero Saarinen, Harry Bertoia, Charles Eames and Jens Risom posing for Playboy Magazine's July 1961 edition.

Elegant paper lanterns

Two years, ago, when I went to see a ballet at the Opéra Garnier, I found these gorgeous paper lanterns in the Opera Gallery shop, and I instantly fell in love with them. If it weren't for the price, I would have bought them instantly. These elegant pieces are made in paper by a couple of talented artists under the label Papier à Etres and can be bought in Europe, Australia or Japan, or seen in elegant windows, including those of a famous jewelry store in the chic place Vendôme in Paris. Now, two years later, as their charm doesn't fade for me, I am even more tempted to get at least one of them.

Le Petit Atelier de Paris

       

A year and a half ago, I took these pictures in one of my favorite Parisian shops: Le Petit Atelier de Paris (litterally the little workshop of Paris) and shared them in this blog. This is indeed a place already mentioned here, here, here and here, but I love it so much that I wanted to share this address again. This is the place where I buy my porcelain plates, bowls, mini-vases and more, handmade in by a couple of talented artists and delicately decorated with Parisian illustrations or golden stars. These pieces have litterally added poetry on the dining table, and I never get tired with them. On the contrary, I must refrain from buying the whole shop.

I am a great admirer of Amy Atlas' dessert buffets, and this holiday inspiration is no exception to the rule. I will keep it in my mind for our family's Christmas dinner in two weeks.

Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish.

 

As a huge Apple fan, I cannot start this week without sharing these inspiring words by Steve Jobs from his 2005 Stanford Commencement Address (You can read the text here). As an artist and designer or simply as a human being, his words really resonate in me and remind me how important it is to do what you love, believe in yourself and trust that everything will be alright.

I hope that you had a great week-end. 

For ever

I've been wanting these two posters forever. The top one by Super Rural would be perfect in my bedroom, and the second one - created by designer Milton Glaser after the events of Sept. 11, 2001 - would be perfect on my wall close to my vintage New York pictures and illustrations. After all, we all remember that day very clearly, even though all our experiences were not the same.
